I knew that there was a problem with the cam code, and it's on my todo list.

MidnightBSD enables ipfw by default and has since 0.2.  It should have a reasonable ruleset loaded.  you can try running

ipfw disable firewall

if you can surf with it off, check your firewall configuration or turn it off.
