MidnightBSD has it’s own package manager called mport. You can man mport to learn more about it. There’s also a port with a graphical interface for packages (mport-manager), but of course you have to get the GUI up first.
Can you tell me the version and architecture of MidnightBSD you’re using? 0.8 amd64?
It’s likely though that the login app didn’t get installed properly. Depending on the version, you could try mport install slim or better yet, use mports and install mlogind which is the newer customized slim for MidnightBSD. If you choose this route, you need to add mlogind_enable=“YES” to /etc/rc.conf and reboot or type service mlogind start
If you did install mports, you should be able to do svnlite up in /usr/mports to get the latest or to checkout mports, you can do cd /usr/; svnlite co http://svn.midnightbsd.org/svn/mports/trunk <http://svn.midnightbsd.org/svn/mports/trunk> mports
You can also install an updated subversion with mport install subversion which should make the process smoother.
